Best available encryption algorithms: For encrypting files, FileNcode gives you the option to use any one of the following five encryption algorithms - which are amongst the most-secure, thoroughly tested and tried, industry-standard encryption algorithms - such as
AES (Rijndael),
Triple DES,
Blowfish,
RC2,
DES.
It is pertinent to mention that AES is the new official US Government standard for encryption since May 26, 2002, replacing the earlier standard of DES. The NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology) of US has recommended use of AES for encryption purposes by the US Government organizations and others. AES uses 256-bit keys for encryption. Triple DES is also one of the three encryption algorithms accepted by the US Government as standard. Blowfish is one of the best open-source encryption algorithm.
Absolutely safe and near impossible to crack: FileNcode uses 256-bit, 192-bit, 448-bit, 128-bit and 56-bit key sizes for AES (Rijndael), TripleDES, Blowfish, RC2, and DES algorithms respectively. It makes the encryption absolutely safe and near impossible to crack. Assuming that a processor can process up to 10 million keys per second, similar to the performance of a typical Intel Pentium 4 computer, the time taken by an unauthorized person using the brute-force method to crack a typical AES (Rijndael) 256-bit key would be an astronomical figure of appx. 1.83 * 1062 years, which means We can realize the enormity of such a figure when we recall that the age of the universe itself is believed to be not more than 2.0 * 1010 years (which means 20000000000 years only)!! This exercise reveals the extent to which such algorithms may be secure.
