The most likely prolbem is that the monitor cable coming out of the laptop and going into the monitor is loose somewhere. With new flat screen monitors, they will go into a mode that is similar to being shut off if now signal is detected giving it the appearance that something is wrong with the power. To solve this, try unplugging the monitor cable out of both the laptop and the monitor and re hooking them up securely. Chances are that if it was working and now it is not is that something got bumped and came out. Also make sure the power cord is going into the monitor securely. If this does not help, try hooking the monitor up to another computer, either a laptop or a desktop if possible, if it works than you know that it is something wrong with the laptop, if not, it is something wrong with the monitor or the cord. If possible, try using a different cord connecting the laptop and the monitor if it is not fastened into the back of the monitor. If it works then, you have a bad cord and it needs to be replaced. Also try hooking another monitor up to the laptop, if that works than you know it is the monitor. Also if you have a desktop computer available, try taking the power cord off of that (after it has been safely shut down) and try using it with the monitor. If this works, you need a new power cord for the monitor. You can also try updating the drivers of the video card on the laptop by going to the manufacturers website and downloading the one for your card. To find out the manufacturer right click on my computer and choose properties > Hardware > Device Manager. Click on the plus next to display adapters and look at the brand name. (it will probably either be Intel, ATI, or Nvidia, but others are possible) Go to their website and look for downloads or drivers and update yours. If the monitor shuts off once and a while temporarily while switching resolutions (such as playing games, movies, etc) and then comes back on, this might be how the monitor reacts and this would in most cases be considered normal, unless it shuts off for long periods of time. If you figure out that it is the laptop or the monitor that is not working with anything else (it will most likely be the monitor though), contact the manufacturer, if it is new than it should still be under warranty and should be replaceable or fixable. Hope this helps!
